DAY 2
MAYBE WE
“I fell in love with believing you could want me.”
MAYBE WE
The Concept.
Day 2, guys! Welcome back! This one is honestly so special to us. I’ve been calling this song my baby behind the scenes. I’m so incredibly proud to share it with you. “Maybe We” first came to me as an instrumental very late one night from Phil with the working demo title “Sad (Fuck This).” Without putting too much of Phil’s personal life out there, let’s just say that Phil was going through a year of growth and change in his life and I knew what he’d been feeling. While his story is his own and is uniquely personal, my side of the story was wanting to interpret it properly. So, as cheesy as it sounds, we set out to write the ultimate sadboi anthem.
Now as a happily married man, while I won’t say that I’ve never had any problems in my personal life, but I’m long removed from the stuff that used to cause the emotional damage that I think this song really speaks to. That being said, I have been there and I think it’s something we’ve all felt. So I wanted to write this song for you, too. I’m always watching movies and series and draw a lot of my inspiration from characters I sympathize with. This was something that helped me with the perspective of heartbreak.
LYRICS
I’ve had enough and it’s starting to haunt me. I fell in love with believing you could want me. I don’t see anything like you do, it seems.
Well, maybe we were guaranteed to fail when I told you that I- I can’t believe what you mean to me
It’s always harder to find out they don’t feel the same. But at least I get to hold you
So come a little close, if only in my dreams, now. I bet you’ll never know how it feels to be let down. I don’t want you to worry about it.
It’s all the same, it’s a vicious game.
so what did you; did you mean to do? you don’t wanna- to tell the truth cause I guess it’s just no use to you
I guess you think that I don’t see the signs. It’s like you think that I’m going blind.
& I’ve been hiding in plain sight, there’s no other way.
can’t compare you to anyone
when you’re around
and I don’t feel alone
I wanna get over this, I wanna get over you. But I feel you telling me not to. But I’ve been wrong, yeah I’ve been wrong before.
well maybe we, well maybe we, well maybe we weren’t guaranteed
THE DEMO PROCESS
“I bet you’ll never know how it feels to be let down…”
— Maybe We
As we all know, there is an exception to every rule in life. “Maybe We” was the exception to my rule of “starting with gibberish” lyrics. This one just kinda fell out of me. As you read above, this one had a distinct purpose from the beginning and I had a direction I felt was very important in being a mouthpiece for one of my closest friends who was going through it. When you listen to the demo, you’ll notice that all those lyrics stayed this time. During the demo stage on this particular song, we just wrote up to the first chorus (something we call an “IVC” demo- intro, verse, chorus) and we immediately knew we had something. I finished the second verse and bridge once we got to the studio while the guys were tracking instruments and those parts came super naturally as well. The mission statement on this song was simple; it’s a universal experience. Loss & heartbreak are something we all have shared experience in and the beauty of songs like this is just knowing that you’re not alone in that pain and sometimes not being alone in that very pain can be the best medicine. Again (keeping with today’s theme), that’s cheesy but it’s still true.

The Making of “Maybe We”
Since this will be the second of the two new singles from this EP cycle, we have so much more cool stuff planned for this song in the coming months, but I wanted to make sure you got something really cool before anyone else. So here’s a behind the scenes look at us in the studio recording “Maybe We.” Making this record with my best buds is an experience I’ll always cherish. I hope you connect with this song as I have but no matter what, we poured so much of ourselves into it and I’m so proud of us for that.
